Every four years, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) holds an international football tournament, famously known by its acronym: ‘FIFA World Cup.’ Men’s national football teams from all around the world compete for the title and the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
Since its inception in 1930, only 13 national teams have reached the final, with the most appearances by Germany, Argentina, and Brazil. So far, 84 nations have competed in the tournament, but only 8 countries have etched their names on the trophy.

- England has won only one FIFA World Cup title in 1966

Key Considerations:
- The FIFA World Cup was not held in 1942 and 1946 because of World War II.
- The 1962 and 1966 finals allowed only one replay. If still tied, the winner was decided by drawing lots. In other knockout matches, lots were used from 1962–1974, while penalty shoot-outs were introduced in 1978.
- Includes West Germany's records (1954–1990).
- Only 3 FIFA World Cup finals have been decided by penalty shootouts (1994, 2006, and 2022)
